Why do these things exist?

Egads. The ocean is filled with terrifying things.

I do not approve of this thing. I mean, yes... every creature is beautiful in it's own way. But this one is not beautiful in a way that I find meaningful. Bleah. It reminds me of the pacu fish.

Things like that exist to inspire guys like Lovecraft. That thing looks RAD. Creepy because its teeth resemble human teeth...

i'm pretty sure guys like Lovecraft are D&D nerds. :)

my boyfriend in college ran a local BBS (I'm showing my age here) using Cthulhu as his handle.

Do you mean "guys *who* like Lovecraft are D&D nerds?" Because Lovecraft died in 1937, which was quite a few years before D&D came around...

umm...

yeah.

we'll say that's what i meant, that sounds good.

or, D&D nerds (not all are guys) have imaginations similar to Lovecraft (not that i've read him, but aforementioned boy was a fan of the RPG based on his work)

I think I'd like D&D, now that I'm not afraid it'll turn me into a devil-worshiper or something

:)

haha... I was told as a kid that it was satanic, too. Having played D&D, I can assure you that it's not anything demonic or weird like that. It's not that sort of thing at all.

It is, however, a good way to kill a LOT of hours in a day, if that's what you're looking to do. You can't play a good game in less than 3 hours or so, and most adventures can last for weeks at a time.
