Good and Evil Experiences

142 words · May 1, 2026

Genesis 35 talks of fruitfulness, and it's hard to not think back to the Tree of Good and Evil knowledge. Good and Evil... Tov and Ra, the experiences of abundant joy and thriving, paired with misery and suffering.

Jacob erects two stones of remembrance in this chapter:

So Jacob set up a memorial stone in the place where He had spoken with him, a memorial of stone, and he poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it. Genesis 35:14 (NASB)

And Jacob set up a memorial stone over her grave; that is the memorial stone of Rachel’s grave to this day. Genesis 35:20 (NASB)

It's almost as if the chapter is telling us that we are always eating from the fruit of that tree, and that our daily lives are the living out of Tov and Ra.
