Life and Death

Humanity’s first response to the shame and vulnerability of sin is to hide. To cover ourselves. That’s the lesson of Genesis 3. We ALL do this.

But Genesis 4 shows us two paths: one of righteousness that leads to dying, and one of wickedness that leads to killing.

Perhaps every instance of “do not fear” in the scriptures points to the first fear. Vulnerability, shame, hiding.

He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

Over and over again, we are told, “do not fear.”
