Or maybe I'm a gardener. I'm not sure exactly what it takes to go from being a gardener to being a farmer, but I'm something.
I've decided that I want to dedicate a portion of my free-time to growing food. I've got a large back yard, and the previous owners left me with large fruit trees -- apples, cherries, and asian pears, plus a large area dedicated to growing vegetables.
In the back of my mind, I've always thought it would be neat to grow food. No, it's not because I think there's something gratifying about working with my hands in the dirt (although I do), or because there's something miraculous about large things growing from seeds (although that's pretty neat). I think it's because I hate paying for food. Each time I go to the grocery store and I buy a head of lettuce, or cob of corn, or a box of cherries, I always think to myself, I could totally grow this!
And now I'm a gardener/farmer/something.
